Day
1:
1st Day (10/28 - Tue.) ROME (Lido d’Ostia)
Arrive Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport where you are met by your Bella
Italia Tours director. Transfer by private bus to our modern 4-star hotel.
Orientation meeting in the early afternoon and then our private bus will
take us to the Vatican Museums, where we'll admire the Sistine Chapel,
Raphael's wonderful frescoes, famous Greek and Roman sculptures, and many
other art treasures. We'll then walk to nearby Piazza San Pietro and up
the steps and into St. Peter's Basilica where we’ll see Michelangelo’s
famous “Pietà”, Bernini’s bronze Baldacchino (canopy). A welcome-to-Rome
dinner, with local specialties.
Day 2:
2nd Day (10/29 - Wed.) AMALFI (Marmorata)
Today, a drive south (passing by the Monastery of Montecassino) to Pompeii,
where we'll take a tour (entrance incl.) of this ill-fated city which is truly
a "time capsule". We will then travel to the spectacular and breathtaking
Amalfi Coast to the old maritime town of Amalfi with its beautiful cathedral
and steep terraces. We'll settle in at our beautiful 4-star hotel by the water
and we'll enjoy a delicious welcome-to-the-Amalfi-Coast dinner with local
specialties.
Day 3:
3rd Day (10/30 - Thu.) AMALFI
Today we’ll take a boat to the Isle of Capri, where you’ll have plenty of
time to explore this beautiful and “enchanted” island with your tour director
and/or independently. Our boat will return to Amalfi in the late afternoon.
More sightseeing, shopping and return to our hotel Dinner.
Day 4:
4th Day (10/31 – Fri.) AMALFI
A free day. Perhaps a visit to Positano or, maybe, a bus to Salerno and then
a train to Naples. Your tour director will offer as an extra option, a walk
to the wonderful Valle dei Mulini where the paper mills where located in the
Middle Ages. Dinner.
Day 5:
5th Day (11/1 - Sat.) AMALFI
After breakfast, our we'll drive to the top of the hill and visit lofty Ravello
where we’ll take a good look (entrance incl.) at wonderful Villa Cimbrone.
Independent lunch and then a ride down to Amalfi for some leisure time, and
shopping. Dinner.
Day
6:
6th Day (11/2 - Sun.) COSENZA
After breakfast, our we'll drive south of the city of Salerno to the Greek
temples at Paestum which we will explore fully. We will then go south
to the region of Calabria and check in at our 4-star hotel in downtown
Cosenza. Dinner tonight with local specialties.
Day 7:
7th Day (11/3 - Mon.) TAORMINA
This morning, we'll cross the Straits of Messina and drive to the enchanting
resort town of Taormina, which clings to a mountain high above the blue coast.
We'll check in at our beautiful 4-star hotel right on the bay by the water
and then, after a funivia (cable car) ride we'll visit the town and tour the
classical Greco/Roman theater with a beautiful view of mt. Etna. Independent
time and dinner tonight.
Day 8:
8th Day (11/4 - Tue.) TAORMINA
A free day. You may want to relax this morning or hire a small motorboat to
take you along the rugged coast and to a blue grotto. Our wonderful hotel
is situated in lush gardens at water’s edge and has a private beach for your
enjoyment of Sicily’s mild autumn climate.
Day 9:
9th Day (11/5 - Wed.) TAORMINA
Today we'll head south to nearby Siracusa (Syracuse) where we'll visit the
Greek theater built out of the live rock in the 3rd century AD and an interesting
cave called L'orecchio di Dionisio (Dionisus' ear) famous for its acoustic
qualities. We'll then transfer to the Isola di Ortigia (the ancient town -
an island) where we'll have more time to explore, visit the cathedral, the
Temple of Apollo, etc.
Day 10:
10th Day (11/6 - Thu.) CALTANISSETTA
We'll (reluctantly) say goodbye to Taormina this morning and drive to the
town of Piazza Armerina where we'll visit an extraordinary ancient Roman villa
which was covered completely by mud and thus beautifully preserved for about
1000 years until today. We'll then drive to Caltanissetta and check-in at
our 4-star hotel. Dinner tonight with local specialties.
Day
11:
11th Day (11/7 - Fri.) PALERMO
After breakfast we'll drive to quaint Cefalù and have lunch (independently)
there along the beach. We'll then head for Palermo and, after an introductory
bus tour of this busy city, we'll check in at our 4-star hotel situated
in dowtown Palermo by the water and Botanic Gardens. Welcome-to-Palermo
dinner.
Day 12:
12th Day (11/8 - Sat.) PALERMO
Today we'll visit the fabulous 12th century Norman cathedral of Monreale with
its glittering golden mosaics. We'll have lunch independently in this charming
town and then free time to shop, and pack our bags. A great farewell dinner
with local specialties tonight.
Day 13:
13th Day (11/9 - Sun.) YOUR FLIGHT HOME
We'll transfer by motor coach to Palermo's Punta Raisi Airport for your return
flight.
