Santa Margherita Ligure Begin in this beautiful harbor with stunning views of the Italian Riviera. Walk to the resort jewel of Portofino, named Portus Delphini by Emperor Augustus for the dolphins that frolicked in its bay. Return by boat to Santa Margherita.

Day 2:
Walk coastal footpaths from enchanting Golfo di Tigullio to the medieval abbey of San Fruttuoso, and picnic on its secluded beach. Continue to Camogli, an old sea town known for its picturesque harbor and ancient sardine festival.

Day 3:
Monterosso Shuttle to Levanto, the gateway to the Cinque Terre. Visit a local craftsman who makes handcrafted boats in traditional Ligurian style. Hike along ancient trade routes high above the sea to meet our spirited chef, Felicita Ratti, for an afternoon cooking lesson.

Day 4:
Le Cinque Terre Follow astounding vertically terraced vineyards and fields of heather to the unique villages of Vernazza, Corniglia and Manarola.

Day 5:
Head inland along the spine of a mountain ridge and explore ancient paths that link medieval sanctuaries. Enjoy panoramic views of the Cinque Terre’s steep hinterlands and the crystal-clear sea below.

Day 6:
Portovenere From Riomaggiore, hike south to the Roman-Byzantine town of Portovenere, walking along a cliff-cut trail with incredible views of the sea and the Apuan mountains.

Day 7:
Palmaria Island A morning boat ride across the romantic Poets’ Gulf to Isola Palmaria. We’ll circumnavigate the island and picnic on its shores.

Day 8:
A quick shuttle to La Spezia.
