Kingdom of the two Sicily - 10 nights TourTour Duration :
11 Days
Rome, Caserta, Salerno, Cetraro: Leave Rome at 08:00am. Surveying the Highway of the Sun (southwards) and admiring the fertile fields of Lazio region characterized by its vineyards and olive groves. Crossing the Roman Castle territory and the Ciociaria (native home of Sofia Loren) we will pass by the Montecassino Abbey. We will enter to the Campania region to visit Caserta where it's located the imposing Borbon's Palace. (XVIII c.). Continue to Salerno. Free time for lunch and to visit this Norman city of the XI c. Proceed to Cetraro crossing Scalea. Dinner and overnight. Day 2: Cetraro, Guardia, Paola, Cetraro: Breakfast at hotel. During the day we will make the tour of the Tirrenian Coast. First stop in Guardia Piemontese, city built on the XIII c. by the Piemonte population who attends the Valdesa religion. Their dialect it's still spoken. Then we will visit the St. Francis of Paola Sanctuary. Return to hotel, free afternoon. Dinner and overnight. Day 3: Cetraro, Sila Park, Pizzo, Tropea, Vibo V.: Breakfast at hotel and departure to the Sila Natural Park, a forest of Pines and lakes of thermal water and where's possible to enjoy the "Natural Reservation of the fallistro Giants". Free time in the city of Camigliatello. Departure to Pizzo Calabro, charming village located on a cape over the sea and where it's possible to walk around tasting the specialty of the town: its truffle ice-cream, while Joachim Murat king of France will embrace us with his memory in the Castle. Continue to the enchanting city of Tropea, free time for lunch or to enjoy the suggestive atmosphere of its lanes who faces to the turquoise sea from and high altitude. On clear days it is possible to admire one of the Eolie's island: Sromboli. During the afternoon we will climb to Vibo Valentia from where it's possible to assist at a very a romantic dusk. Dinner and overnight. Day 4: Vibo Valentia, Reggio Calabria: Breakfast at hotel. During the morning ride to Reggio Calabria, crossing the panoramic highway overlooking the largest island of the Mediterranean: Sicily. Arriving to the Straight of Messina we can admire, as from a balcony, the homonymous city. On arrival there will be a day at disposal either to bath in the waters of the straight or to shop around or just to have a cocktail at the seashore surrounded by trees and centenary magnolias. Dinner and overnight Day 5: Reggio Calabria, Taormina: Breakfast hotel. Visit to the National Museum to admire the rests of a disappeared culture as well as the Bronzes of Riace, two Greek Bronze statues of the V. b.C. discovered recently in the depth of the Mediterranean. From Reggio embark to Messina. City tour including the Cathedral with the belfry and the watch who will delight our voyage at midday with and enthusiastic spectacle. During the afternoon we will survey Taormina city. Free time to discover the first city of Sicily to be conquered by the Greeks who because of its geographical position, its sweet weather and the unnumbered panoramic views together with the flourish colours is considered the ideal atmosphere for a selected tourism. Dinner and overnight. Day 6: Taormina, Etna, Taormina: Breakfast at hotel. During the morning visit to the highest volcano of Europe (1.800m.) and in between the largest actives one of the planet: the Etna. We will climb by bus up to the highest refuge, and walk inside two extinguished craters and enjoy the unique view and the "moon" environment. Return to hotel. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight. Day 7: Taormina: Breakfast at hotel. Free day to personal activities. Is it suggested an optional visit to Eolie Islands. Dinner and overnight.
Taormina, Siracusa, Agrigento: Breakfast at hotel. Departure to Siracusa, to visit the Ortigia Island, characterized by its Sicilian baroque, we will enter to the Cathedral, the Aretusa fountain, etc. Continue to the archaeological complex, visit to the Greek amphitheatre, the "Ear of Dionysus", the Roman Theatre, etc. During the afternoon the journey proceeds to Agrigento. Known as the "city of the temples" because of the best preserve of the "Magna Greece" located at its foot. Dinner. After dinner, panoramic tour a view of the illuminated temples. Overnight at hotel. Day 9: Agrigento, Erice, Palermo: Breakfast at hotel. Visit to the Valley of the Temples including the temples of June, of the Concordia, of Hercules and the Largest Doric temple of the World: the temple of Jupiter. At midday departure to Erice, located at 750 m. over sea level and well preserved because of its walls built on the VI b. C. Afternoon at leisure. Arrival to Palermo. Dinner and overnight. Day 10: Palermo: Breakfast at hotel. During the morning city tour and visit to Monreale, the old Royal city, where it' possible to enter the Cathedral, decorated with impressive gold mosaics. To continue, crossing the old "Gold Valley" we return to Palermo to visit the Cathedral and the Palatine Chapel considered one of the best monuments of the Norman period of Palermo. Free afternoon. Dinner and overnight. Day 11: Palermo, Naples, Roma: Breakfast at hotel and at schedule leave by steamer to Naples, during the journey of 4.5 hours we may use different accommodations (restaurant, bar, reading room, cinema, and shops). Once in Naples it will be done a sightseeing of the city continuing to the final destinations: Rome. Arrival at hotel or nearby and end of our services. IMPORTANT: Departure during the month of October, will return from Palermo by air, directly to Rome.
