San Gimignano & Chianti Short Escape: Self-guided
Tour Duration : 4 Days  Day 1:
Pick-up at the Poggibonsi station and transfer to your hotel in San Gimignano. Once celebrated as “The City of Beautiful Towers”, San Gimignano is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Italy. Arrive early enough to explore its narrow, winding streets and while away some time sipping Vernaccia in one of the cafés on the main square. Day 2: Head for tiny Staggia Senese. Wind your way through vineyards and olive groves. This is a hilly ride, but you’ll be rewarded with lovely views at every turn. Your destination and base for two nights is the Villa Lecchi, which you can see perched on its hilltop as you approach Staggia. (23 km/14 mi) Day 3: Today explore the heart of Chianti. Your first destination is Castellina, a delightful old town that’s also headquarters of the wine co-operative. Visit the Etruscan tomb, then head for Monteriggioni, completely surrounded by its circular walls with heavily fortified watchtowers. It’s hardly changed since the 13th century. Return to the Villa Lecchi. (43 km/26 mi) Day 4: Departure. You’re transferred to Poggibonsi where you can catch a train to your next destination.
