Sicily and the Aeolian Islands

Day 1:

Meet in Catania and transfer to Milazzo where we hydrofoil out to the Aeolian Islands. Introductions and a warm up ride before welcome drinks and dinner in town. Three nights at Villa Meligunis, a 4 star villa in Lipari with views of Marina Corta and the Church of St. Bartolomeo.

Day 2:
Our next day is a wonderful ride looping the island of Lipari, with great views of Panarea and Stromboli. Time for swimming in Acquacalda and a picnic lunch overlooking the Mediterranean. We meet up with a fisherman for a boat ride to Vulcano, where we hike (1.5 hrs) up to the crater of the volcano that dominates the island - spectacular views of the archipelago! Others may choose to soak in the open air sulfuric hot springs & mud baths.

Day 3:
By private charter to Salina, a pristine island where Il Postino was filmed. Our ride passes through vineyards and caper fields and stops in Malfa, where we share a glass of Malvasia with the locals. Bike on to Il Postino's village or visit the Neolithic Museum in Lipari's old town before a very special dinner at a friend's restaurant where his mother still cooks in the kitchen.

Day 4:
Hydrofoil to the mainland before an easy ride along the sea to the stylish resort of Taormina, perched high above the Ionian Coast. Two nights at Grand Hotel Timeo, one of the best hotels in Italy. It is a 5 star property with magnificent rooms, service and style.

Day 5:
On our layover day, we join Tommaso for a walking tour of town and its dramatic Greek Amphitheatre. Visit Roberto's pasticceria for a sampling of marzipan, browse Taormina's many boutiques, or join your guides on a ride to the remote Agro Valley.

Day 6:
Our route passes through fragrant orange and almond groves before we arrive at Mt Etna National Park. A spectacular route through the lava fields leads us into Zafferana Etnea, the small village that was touched by lava in 1992. Our grand farewell dinner includes Sicilian specialties such as involtini of swordfish, roasted red peppers, smoked eggplant and an array of local cheeses. One night at a 4 star villa hotel set just outside the Mt. Etna National Park.

Day 7:
Breakfast buffet on the terrace before our late-morning transfer to the Catania Fontanarossa Airport. Bike Riders highly recommends extending your stay in Sicily.
