Tour Category : Delux Tours 1. Arrive Rome / Monteriggioni Tour departs: Rome's Fiumicino Airport one hour after the arrival of our selected flight(s). Drive along scenic country roads lined with sunflowers, towering cypresses and rolling hills, stopping for lunch in Pienza in the heart of Tuscany. Continue on to Hotel Il Piccolo Castello, set in the foothills of the medieval fortress of Monteriggioni. We invite you to join us for a welcome dinner. Meals LD 2. Artistic or Historic Siena ![]() Learn about the exciting personal discoveries that await you in Tuscany this week during a morning meeting with your Tour Director. Your choices begin in rose-colored Siena where you select between two guided walking tours. Discover the "Artistic Siena" that is so eloquently displayed at Pinacoteca Nazionale, in the medieval state rooms at the Palazzo Pubblico, and at the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo. History comes alive on a walking tour that takes you to the home of Italy's patron saint, Casa di Santa Caterina; the Palazzo Piccolomini, which houses a pictorial history of Siena; and the Torre del Mangia, adjacent to the Gothic Town Hall. Both walks visit Siena's Duomo, one of the most spectacular early Gothic cathedrals in Italy, and the Piazza del Campo - paved in red brick and marble, it is the site of a festive bi-annual horse race dating back to the Middle Ages. Choices this afternoon are between a relaxing aromatherapy treatment or a bicycle tour of the lush Tuscan countryside. Enjoy a medieval pageant before dinner in town. Meals BD 3. Montalcino or San Galgano Two choices await this morning. One takes you on a scenic pilgrimage to the hilltop town of Montalcino where one of Italy's finest red wines is produced; enjoy a walking tour along streets boasting well-preserved 14th and 15th century architecture, stopping at a fine local restaurant for lunch and a wine tasting. Or, travel to the lovely woodland setting of San Galgano; sample the region's wine and enjoy a Tuscan picnic within view of the nearby beehive-shaped chapel of Montesiepi. Spend the afternoon as you wish, with the same choices as yesterday - the spa or a bicycle trip through the Tuscan countryside. Meals BL 4. Chianti and Florence Your day begins with a visit to the 12th-century Castello di Brolio, synonymous with Chianti's finest wines; enjoy a wine tasting and tour of their famous wine cellars.
