Italy Walking Tour - 9 Days
With breathtaking views, the Alps as a backdrop, the lakes shimmering
below and some of Europe's most spectacular scenery, the Italian Lake District
is a magical region. We mix the fun and adventure of countryside trails with
walks into ancient Roman settlements, and fascinating cities such as Verona.
There are private lunches, visits to wine cellars, boat rides, and a gondola
trip in Venice…a wonderful combination of activity and pleasure in this enchanted
region!

INCLUDES:
Day 1: USA or Canada - Milan, Italy
Depart from the USA or Canada by overnight flight to Milan.
Day 2: Milan - Lake Como
You are met and transferred by private car to your magnificent hotel, set on
the banks of Lake Como, where your A&K guide is waiting to meet you. This
evening, meet your fellow travelers for drinks and a welcome dinner in the hotel.

Day 3: Lake Como and Bellagio
This morning, we enjoy a lake cruise to the lovely Villa Balbianello, set peacefully
on its own island. Continuing to Como, we take a walking tour, seeing the 15th-century
Renaissance-Gothic cathedral, with lunch at leisure. We return to Bellagio with
the rest of the day at leisure, perhaps to enjoy an optional activity such as
renting a canoe, water-skiing or a treatment in the hotel's beauty center. This

Day 4: Bergamo and Lunch with Contessa Agliardi
This morning we drive to Bergamo, birthplace of the operatic composer Donizetti.
We stroll through the old town with its 16th-century Venetian ramparts, view
the fine Medieval and Renaissance buildings and visit the Accademia Carrara,
one of Italy's finest art collections, containing pieces by many of the Venetian
masters. We are then invited to lunch with Contessa Agliardi in her beautiful
country retreat before continuing to Lake Garda where we check into magnificent
Palazzo Arzaga, a restored 15th-century monastery. This evening we dine à la

Day 5: Lake Garda
Spend the morning exploring beautiful Lake Garda, surrounded by exquisite villas.
Visit enchanting Sirmione with its 13th-century castle and medieval streets.
This afternoon, those who wish can take a steamer to Bardolino and stroll along
to the lake. Alternatively spend time at the hotel taking advantage of its excellent
facilities, including an 18-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus II, in
addition to a nine-hole golf course designed by Gary Player, a spa, tennis courts,

Day 6: Verona and Lunch with Contessa Rizzardi
This morning we drive to historic Verona, setting for Shakespeare's romantic
Romeo & Juliet. We walk through the streets, visiting the imposing Roman
Arena, the colorful Piazza delle Erbe, and the "House of Juliet."
This afternoon we are guests of Contessa Rizzardi in her beautiful Villa on
the shores of Lake Garda, where we enjoy a guided tour of the Italian gardens
and lunch in the 18th-century lemon conservatories. Dinner is at leisure.

Day 7: Lake Garda
Those who wish may walk this morning in the Morenico Ampitheatre, a natural
bowl formed by lush green hills, followed by a lakeside lunch. The afternoon
is free to enjoy our luxurious hotel and partake in optional activities such
as horseback riding, cycling or swimming, or visit the nearby Il Vittoriale,
former home of the flamboyant Italian poet Gabriele d'Annunzio. Palazzo

Day 8: A Private Visit to Castello Bornato
After a morning at leisure we depart for Castello Bornato, a rare example of
a Renaissance villa built within a Medieval fortress and still home to the Orlando
family. We then visit a renowned vineyard for a tour and a tasting of the excellent
wines of the Veneto. Farewell dinner takes place in the hotel's wine cellar

Day 9: Lake Garda - Venice or Milan - USA or Canada
Transfer to the airport to board a homebound flight. B

These tours are suitable for most healthy travelers. Operating at low altitudes
and in temperate climates, these itineraries include only a small active element
- typically gentle walking - in combination with culturally oriented sightseeing.
Support and transport are by conventional road vehicles.
Departures Limited To 24 Passengers This tour requires a minimum of 6 passengers
