Tuscany Walking Tour - 8 Days

During our days of walking in the wonderful, unspoiled part of Tuscany, enjoy the delights of the southern wine regions of "Brunello" and "Nobile". Pass through quaint villages, explore the remote abbey at St. Antimo and relax at the thermal springs of Bano Vignoni. Experience the Val d'Orcia with its breathtaking landscapes, renaissance towns and superb monasteries with time to sample the local wines.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Florence and transfer by train and minibus to Montepulciano.

Day 2 Commence the trek from the San Biagio church to the village of Montichiello. Continue to the Renaissance town of Pienza, known for its pecorino cheese and truffles.

Day 3 Walk through rolling hills, oak woods and villages to arrive in Bano Vignoni with its basin of hot water in the main square. Swim in the thermal pool.

Day 4 Hike along dry river beds through remote countryside to St. Antimo, a beautiful isolated abbey. After lunch transfer by vehicle to Montalcino.

Day 5 Montalcino, a classic Tuscan hill town, is located in the famous wine region of Brunello. Overnight in Buonconvento.

Days 6 & 7 Transfer to Monte Oliveto Maggiore and visit the imposing abbey with Signorelli frescoes, returning to Buonconvento for the night. Following a dirt road, we wind through hillsides to Murlo, originally an Etruscan town. Transfer by vehicle to Siena, with time to explore the spectacular cathedral and "Il Campo" where the annual Palio horse race is held.

Day 8 Tour ends after breakfast with a transfer to Florence.

Accommodation & Meals: 7 nights small hotels. Meals included: 7 breakfasts, 1 lunch, 4 dinners. Allow approx $90 for meals not included.
Mode of Travel: Walking, Minibus, train.
Group Size: Min. 6, max. 14, plus leader.
Tour style: Leisurely. No experience is necessary at this level. Anyone fit and in good health can manage this grade. Walks are usually short (4-6hrs) and at lower altitudes, with some optional rest days. Walking always involves exertion and trails are seldom flat, therefore a reasonable amount of ascents and descents must be expected.
