Veneto Biking

Stretching from the gentle canals of Venice to the rolling foothills of the Dolomites, the Veneto region was once the retreat of wealthy Venetian nobles who commissioned such masters as Paolo Veronese and Andrea Palladio to embellish and design their country estates. Riding with Backroads along tranquil stradine (small roads) and over the pre-Alps, pass fields of wheat, terraced vineyards and Renaissance towns. We explore opulent Palladian villas and sip Prosecco at a local winery. Come evening, we live like Venetian nobility in our luxurious lodgings and feast on regional specialties such as fresh seafood, creamy polenta and crisp Pinot Grigio

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Rivarotta Meet in Venice
• From Rivarotta, ride past farms and vineyards to Portobuffole, a town that prospered
   in the Renaissance
• Peaceful wooded roads lead us to Villa Varda and Sacile, a friendly riverside hamlet.
 

Days 2-3 Follina Ride through pianure (plains) to the foothills of the Dolomites
• Explore the medieval architecture and historic town center of Vittorio Veneto
• Don’t miss Follina’s 12th-century Cistercian abbey with its Gothic and Romanesque
  architecture
• Pedal through the verdant Valdobbiadene wine region
• Indulge in a bounty of irresistible regional fare at the cozy Trattoria di Clemi, a local
   favorite.
 

Days 4-6 Asolo
Bike to Fanzolo and embark on a guided tour of Palladio’s Villa Emo
• Adorned with frescoes of Greek mythology, Emo is a “graceful union of form and
  function” according to Travel+Leisure
• From its hilltop perch, the walled village of Asolo is fittingly called “the town of a
  hundred horizons”
• Imbibe a glass of fiery grappa in Bassano, home to a historic grappa distillery housed
  in Palladio’s only surviving covered-wooden bridge
• Visit Villa Barbaro, a 16th-century masterpiece embellished with frescoes by
  Veronese.
