The Villa Igea Hotel, built
in 1875, is a first class hotel located 55 minutes from Marco Polo International
Airport or just 30 minutes by water taxi. Situated in, what is surely
one of Venice's loveliest squares, Campo San Zaccaria, the hotel has thirty
rooms decorated in charming Venetian style, half of which look onto the
sunny Campo and the imposing facade of San Zaccaria Church, considered
a Renaissance masterpiece. The Villa's sister hotel, Savoia & Jolanda,
just steps away is a bit larger and guests of the Villa Igea can avail
themselves of its services.
For history lovers, the relics of eight early Doges lie in the waterlogged
crypt under the Chapel of San Tarasio. Legend has it that Casanova spent
many a night frolicking in the adjoining Benedictine Abbey (now police
headquarters) in the willing company of its then libertine nuns. Surrounded
by so much history and charm, your stay will no doubt be a pleasant one,
ensured by the hotel's attentive staff. The Villa Igea offers on-site
dining, shopping and entertainment venues.
An important, radical renovation of the entire complex was scheduled for
completion in late fall of 2002.
